I Heart Hagerman's Bakery!

Today I went out to a fun birthday lunch with a few friends. We ate at Hagerman's Bakery. I've never been there before (as I am a creature of habit)--but it was fabulous.

Hagerman's is a really fun little mom & pop shop that serves sandwiches and soup. It also features homemade breads, cookies and the like.

I got the California Turkey sandwich--and it was delicious. It had a special sauce that was to die for, avocadoes, bacon, & cucumbers (oh, how I heart cucumbers on a turkey sandwich!)

And best of all...the employees were so nice! They didn't care in the least that me and my darling girlfriends ate, visited, refilled our diet cokes, and laughed for two whole hours!

So the next time you're in town--let's do lunch
at Hagerman's!

A Good Hair Day...

I usually stick around to watch Savvy and Aussie practice with their swim team--but yesterday almost changed my mind!

It was such a cold and windy June day--that it made my ears hurt.

Definitely, not a day meant to be spent poolside (or even in the pool). But, that's pretty much where my kids and I spent it.

Jay had swim team and clinic from 7 am - 1015 am (brrr for her!). The twins had clinic from 10-1030 and then swim team from 5-6 pm (they did say it was a lot warmer in the pool than out).

At the 5 pm practice, it was so cold I wrapped myself in Savvy and Aussie's beach towels...a fashion statement for sure.

By the time I got home at six, I was freezing--and so were my poor little wet swimmers.

As I walked in the door, I caught a glimpse of me in the mirror -- and it wasn't pretty -- my stylish hair do from the morning was very windblown and crazy.

DH was already home from work, so I hustled to get dinner on the table. Finally, our family sat down to dinner.

At this point, DH asked, "Did you get your haircut today?"

"Ummm, no," I answered, thinking who are you and what have you done with my husband? I mean--I could dye my hair red and he probably
wouldn't notice.

"Well, I like it, what did you do different?" he asked.

"Nothing, really," I answered.

Then the thought occured to me--I had been in a veritable hurricane on South Mountain!

So, for all you ladies out their trying to impress your main squeeze. The ingredient to your wildest hair (pun intended) dreams is simple...hang out in a windstorm.

A Brave Man: Update

A couple of months ago, I reported on the courage, that one brave man took upon himself to bare to the world: His Speedo.

Yes, this brave man has continued his weekly stretches near the bench on which I like to view my swim team children.

Yes, this very brave man has continued to wear his speedo--paunch and all.

But, last week, this extremely brave man added the nefarious windmill exercise to his stretches.

This courageous man, loyal readers, has unfortunately taken bravery to an ugly & unnecessary level.

{P.S. T minus 3 days till my blog's one year anniversary! Watch for a crafty giveaway to help celebrate!}

I Heart Anna Griffin!

If you read yesterday's post, you could pretty much guess what my "I Heart Thursday" was going to be about -- Anna Griffin.

I am most in love with her stamp collections...They make for some cute cards, invitations and thank you cards.

The Salutations Wood Stamp Collection is my favorite...

But I also adore her Seasons Greetings collection...

I am addicted to alphabet stamps of any kind -- and her Victorian Alphabet foam collection is so swirly and dreamy. It makes for some darling initials here and there. I love using her fancy letters to personalize cards and tags...oh and it
makes for a cute monogram too.

Anna Griffin also has a fabulous line of invitations, paper, & stationary (but the website I was on had a copyright on the pictures...oh well...
...take my word for it).
PS {You can find Anna Griffin's products at your local Michaels--and probably most craft stores.}

An Easy Invitation...

So, I've finished a couple of Jay's birthday invitations...(not bad considering I didn't even start thinking about them till 11 pm last night--I kinda forgot her party was this Saturday! Oops!)

The double-sided card stock is from K&Co.

I used a darling Anna Griffin stamp to make "An Invitation" tag for the front. {Oh & I got the ribbon on clearance at Taipan -- $3 for 75 feet!}

Inside: Nothing fancy - just typed up the info in brown ink with a gold '13' watermark behind it. Then, I made it messy by edging it in brown ink.

Two down...four to go.

What I'm Doing Today...

Making Invitations for Jay's 13th birthday party

Cleaning my house--mopping my floor is essential to my happiness. I heart the 1/2 price slushies at Sonic until one gets dumped on the floor. Stick-eeeee!

Going to Savvy's school for a poetry reading

Making invites for Jay's summer reading book club with the beehives...Any cute ideas? Pass it on! Please!

Going to Aussie and Savvy's metric olympics at the park near their school (looking like it may be a rainout though).

After last week's shenanigans...
...I'm going to enjoy this low key day.

Going Dental...all Over the Place:Part Deux

So, a couple of weeks ago I blogged about going dental all over the place at the dentist. Well, it happened again--only this time it was the dentist going dental...okay...and maybe a little bit of me.

Last week, as I enjoyed a burrito, some peach salsa and chips--my temporary cap fell off and I unknowingly swallowed it.

There was really no time for me to be engaging in said shenanigans as it truly was the week from hell {the busy-ness of it all astounded me--and my family, my house and my cat, Elvis}.
Needless to say, swallowing a cap wasn't a genius move on my part.

The next morning, I called to make an appt with my dentist. As curse the luck would have it, they could squeeze me in right away. Even luckier was that my new porcelain cap was ready to go--so I wouldn't have to deal with another temp.

Now, I wasn't going to tell them what happened to the cap. It definitely wasn't one of my finer moments. But, for some reason when the nice little hygienist asked me what had happened to my temp--I found myself jokingly confessing that I had swallowed it.

"I bet that happens all the time," I said.

"Ummm, no," she answered. "I think you may be the first I've heard of.

{Oh, c'mon. She looked like she was about 15 --I was probably like
her fourth patient ever.}

Awkward silence.

More awkward silence.

"It looks like summer is finally here," she said.

And so it turned to weather.

With the riveting conversation behind us, it was time to prep my tooth for the cap--she cleaned it, dried it, buffed, and slid it on--it fit like an
OJ Simpson glove.

Then, she called for the dentist. As he walked in the room, he said, "Mix the cement."

Professional that he is, he opted to not try and fit the cap on before cementing it on.

Hygienist applied cement.

Dentist jammed cap onto back tooth...

...and said "bite down on this (big piece of gauze) for the next 5 minutes."

I was feeling pretty proud of myself--because really the only "gone dental" thing I had done was confess to my swallowing of the temp. I didn't have a single outbreak of craziness...

...Until the timer went off and she removed the big piece of gauze I was biting down on.

"Umm...this cap isn't on right," I said.

"Oh, I'm sure it's just the cement settling," the teenager hygienist answered.

"Uh. No. I think he put it on backwards," I answered, worriedly.

She ran out of the room to get the dentist.

Enter, the Dr. Kevorkian dentist.

He apologized as he yanked the cap off...had the hygienist prep the tooth again...and this time came in and fitted it before he cemented it.
{By the way, he brought in a different hygienist for the cementing part -- like it was her fault that he put it on backwards.}

Then, the unthinkable happened again. I'm not kidding. He fitted the cap. It was fine. She cemented it. He jammed it on again and told me to bite down. And it was on Backwards. Again. It was like I was in the dental school version of "Groundhog Day."

I said, "I think it's on backwards again."

"Are you numb?" he asked, as he yanked it off again. "These caps can sometimes be tricky."

I thought, "I'll give you tricky." (and no--I wasn't numb).

He added a bit more cement--put the cap on the right direction and left me to set up.

No. "Sorry--I'm an idiot. "
No. "See ya in 6 months."
No. "Wanna free teeth whitening kit?"

Nothing.

I don't know what I expected.

Maybe a referral to
a new dentist?
